2024 ANNUAL ELECTIONS
NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION
Four (4) seats are open this year, seats A, B , C & F. In order to be eligible to hold a position as a council member for Seat A or B, a person must meet the following qualifications:
In order to be eligible to hold a position as a council member for Seats A, B, C, and D, a person must meet the following qualifications:
Eighteen (18) years old or older by the date of the election in which the person seeks office; and
Physically resided within the Nome/Solomon area for a period of one (1) year immediately preceding the date of the election in which the candidate seeks office. Reasonable temporary absences shall not be used to establish that this requirement has not been satisfied; and
No convictions within the last ten (10) years for any crimes which would be a felony in Alaska, except for State fishing and/or hunting convictions; and
Enrolled as a tribal member of the tribe and, if required by the tribe's membership ordinance, a "Resident Member" as that status is defined by the membership ordinance; and
Free of any physical or mental incapacity which would prevent the candidate from carrying out the duties of a council member.
Candidates must declare their candidacy in writing through a Letter of Intent in accordance with Section IV of the election ordinance. Letters of Intent must be re-ceived by the tribal council no sooner than sixty (60) days and no later than forty (40) days prior to the elec-tion in order for a candidate to have their name includ-ed on ballots. Letters of intent must be received after June 11th and by July 1st , 2024.
Elections will be held during the Village of Solomon An-nual Meeting in Solomon on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.
In order to be considered for council candidacy to the council and your name included on the ballot, you must submit a Letter of intent and disclosure form to the Vil-lage of Solomon. A Letter of Intent must certify that the candidate resides in the Nome/Solomon area, is a tribal member eighteen (18) years old or older, include a dis-closure form, and any other information the candidate wishes the tribal membership to know. The disclosure form requires that the candidate list prior criminal histo-ry and any current pending criminal charges. Contact the tribal coordinator for the form.
Seats E, F and G are "open" seats meaning that in ad-dition to tribal members residing in the Nome/Solomon area, they are open to tribal members who do not reside in the Nome/Solomon area and are not a "Resident Member" as defined by the membership ordinance. In order to be eligible to hold a position as a council member for Seat E, F or G, a person must meet the following qualifications:
Eighteen (18) years old or older by the date of the election in which the person seeks office; andNo con-victions within the last ten (10) years for any crimes which would be a felony in Alaska, except for State fishing and/or hunting convictions; andFree of any physical or mental incapacity which would pre-vent the candidate from carrying out the duties of a council member.
In addition to (A) through (C) immediately above, Seat F is specifically designated as a Youth Seat. In order to be eligible to hold a position as a council member for Seat F, a person must be at least 18 years of age, and no older than 24 years of age.

TRIBAL COURT JUDGES ADDED TO BALLOTS
With the new Tribal Court, we need Tribal Court Judges! Our Tribal Court Ordinance states that we will have 3 staggered terms for elected judges to serve the Tribal Court.
Judge A– Kirsten Timbers, vote to retain or vote to have the VOS Council appoint a new judge.
