The Traditional Council met for a budget meeting August 2023 and has increased the amount of funding available for Home Improvements to current enrolled VOS homeowners. The Council recognizes the need and would like to continue to offer such a program.
VOS has been able to assist 5 tribally enrolled homeowners to date; with anticipation for another 5. This program will continue until funds are depleted or will plan to close October 2024.
Please note; if you have received a direct payment from VOS and have not provided receipts for home improvement work/services, VOS will send you a 1099 for the amount of funding provided to you by December 2023.
For enrolled citizens interested in purchasing a home and to utilize the down payment assistance program - please contact Deilah for resources in the home-buying process. It can be extremely intimidating and overwhelming at first, but please take advantage of this financial supportive opportunity! Alaska Housing Finance Corporation offers an online curriculum for a home purchase. Contact Deilah at deilah@villageofsolomon.org and she will connect you, direct you and guide you through the process.
If you know you would like to work toward purchasing a home within the next 6-12 months; the time to act is now! Raising your credit score, applying for a home loan, getting in front of your credit score and understanding where improvements are needed (if any) and working with a loan officer before a hard inquiry on your credit report are all great ways to prepare.
For those interested *future homeowners* that would like to apply for the new construction in Nome on the VOS owned lots, E. end of town on 6th and Greg Kruschek - guess what! VOS is still under design developments and coordination, however- in order to be eligible for these new homes- you should also be preparing for a home loan. VOS will work with you directly and a financial institution to hand over the title/mortgage of the home. Ways to prepare, take the AHFC online classes for becoming a home owner and monitor your credit score!
